Ex-NFL Star Accused of Beating, Choking Baby Mama 8/10/2010 1:03 PM PDT by TMZ Staff TMZ has learned ... ex-NFL star Mark Fields -- who played for the Carolina Panthers -- was arrested Sunday for allegedly beating the mother of his 6-year-old child ... and then putting her in a chokehold. According to police docs -- obtained by TMZ -- witnesses say Mark confronted his ex outside a childcare facility near Phoenix, Arizona ... where he allegedly proceeded to beat her, put her in a chokehold, throw her on the ground, and then threaten to kill her. Cops claim both Mark’s baby mama and young daughter were seen by paramedics for mild injuries. According to the docs, Mark’s ex claims she was dropping off court-ordered paperwork when Mark showed up and went ballistic. Mark -- who was allegedly violating an order of protection by showing up -- told cops his ex-GF had tried to take his daughter from his arms. The former linebacker is charged with aggravated assault, endangerment, disorderly conduct, and interfering with an educational institution. He was released from jail yesterday. |

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State junior defensive end Jamie Blatnick has been cited for felony aggravated assault and battery after a fight with a former OSU offensive lineman at a Stillwater bar. Police say witnesses told them Blatnick started the fight early Saturday by hitting Stephen Denning in the face with a beer bottle. Police say Denning was treated at a hospital for a fractured orbital socket. He was cited for misdemeanor assault. No one had been charged as of early Monday. School spokesman Kevin Klintworth says the university is still gathering information and had no comment. Denning last played for the Cowboys in 2008. |

Police say Sheard was in a fight early Sunday and had to be pepper sprayed after he threw the man through the door of La Fond Galleries. Pitt spokesman E.J. Borghetti says Sheard has been suspended from team activities while the athletic department investigates. Sheard was arraigned Sunday on charges including aggravated assault and resisting arrest. Police say charges are possible against the other man. Borghetti declined to comment on Sheard’s behalf. |

At approximately 2 a.m. May 28, the Clemson Police Department received a report of a reported assault at the intersection of North Clemson and Hillcrest Avenue. According to the report, Cumbie assaulted the victim "by striking him in the face with his fists without his consent." The victim, according to the report, was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries including his nose broken in several places, six or seven facial fractures, numerous lacerations in the mouth, a hematoma of the right temple with swelling and bleeding of the brain, strained muscles in the neck and vertebra, two black eyes, a broken tooth, and two other teeth bent back into the gum. According to the report, Cumbie is six inches taller than the victim and outweighs him by 100 pounds. He stands 6-foot-7, 290 pounds. He did confess to striking the victim. |

Dopke an NMSU student who witnessed the incident unfold inside the Pic Quick store on Don Roser and East University Avenue said after that everything started get ugly. "He grabbed the police officer and started wrestling on the ground. The cops says, ’I’m going to tase you, I’m going to tase you.’ They start wrestling on the ground a little bit, finally he gets tased. Their is stuff flying all over the store, " said Dopke. Police wouldn’t confirm what happened during the confrontation, but they did tell KFOX that fellow Aggie player Jacoby Patton was also arrested. He’s charged with resisting arrest. |

... HORRY COUNTY -- A former Coastal Carolina football player was arrested and charged Thursday with multiple felonies. Tyler Campbell, 24, was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 9:49 a.m. on charges of kidnapping, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and malicious injury to animals or personal property over $1,000 but less than $5,000, according to jail records. Details of the arrest, which was made by Horry County police, were not available. Campbell has not yet had a bond hearing and remains jailed. The 5-foot-7, 170-pound Campbell was a senior for the Chanticleers football team last fall, playing in nine games mostly as a special teams standout. He finished the season with 11 tackles. |

Boise State Football Player Charged with Aggravated Battery BSU Bronco senior safety Jason Robinson, suspended earlier this month for violating team rules, now faces a felony aggravated battery charge. Boise Police say officers were called about 8 p.m. Saturday, February 139th, to a battery that had occurred about 12:30 a.m. that morning at a bar on the 500 block of W. Main Street in downtown Boise. According to Boise Police spokeswoman Lynn Hightower, "During the investigation, officers learned the suspect, Robinson, a female, and another male were talking when the victim, an Eagle man in his mid-20's and unknown to the suspect, approached the suspect. According to statements, more words were exchanged and the suspect threw a punch hitting the victim in the jaw." Hightower says the suspect then left the bar. |

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Authorities say San Diego Chargers star linebacker Shawne Merriman has been arrested on suspicion of choking and restraining his girlfriend, a reality TV star, as she tried to leave his Southern California home. San Diego County Sheriff's Lt. Gary Steadman says 27-year-old Tila Tequila signed a citizen's arrest warrant early Sunday, charging Merriman with battery and false imprisonment. Tequila was taken to a hospital. Her condition was not immediately available. Merriman, 25, was taken into custody by deputies who responded to a distress call at his home in Poway, north of San Diego. Tequila, whose real name is Tila Nguyen, is best known for her MTV dating reality show, "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila." The Chargers released a statement from general manager A.J. Smith: "It's disappointing to hear about the issue involving Shawne Merriman. We'll continue to monitor the situation and let the legal process run its course." |

Texas Tech player indicted in assault May 21, 6:04 pm EDT * Buzz Up * LUBBOCK, Texas (AP)–Texas Tech center Stephen Hamby faces an aggravated assault charge for allegedly punching a man in the face twice in March. Hamby, indicted by a grand jury Tuesday, is accused of punching the man during an altercation near campus. The victim suffered a fractured jaw and was treated at a Lubbock hospital, police said. Hamby fled the scene, according to a police report. |
