Police in State College, Pa., issued an underage drinking summons to Clint Gyory on Aug. 24. He was also cited for public drunkenness and criminal mischief on August 1. Gyory was supposed to don the Nittany Lion costume for Saturday's opener against Youngstown State. But athletic department officials say he's been suspended for a month. Penn State cheerleading coach Curtis White said in a statement this week that Gyory regrets his actions. |

McRath said he learned in February he had tested positive early in his rookie season, a year in which the fourth-round draft pick out of Southern Mississippi started five games at outside linebacker. Standing in front of his locker, McRath said it was not for steroids though the NFL did not tell him exactly substance they found in the positive test. |

| 2009-10-13 | The_Criminal | Big 10 | Nuisance | Crime Link | 4 | There may be more to come on this one. If you read the second page it talks about two other Gophers being suspended for two games for something all together different. As for the fighting, I especially like the comment on the MAIC and Big 10 records of the two scools for the decade.
"The university cops were dealing with a high volume of calls, so they decided to cite Tinsley for fleeing police and alcohol consumption by a minor rather than take him to jail....The reason was unknown, although it could not have been taunting over gridiron exploits, since the Auggies are 22-53 in the MIAC in this decade as compared to the Gophers' 28-45 in the Big Ten. Augsburg football coach Frank Haege was contacted Wednesday and asked: 'Which one of your players was beaten up by Gophers and friends Sunday morning?' Haege: 'I don't know.'" |

McMackin used the homosexual slur during a media briefing at the Western Athletic Conference football preview in Salt Lake City. After the remark, he uttered it two more times while trying to explain himself. After the briefing, McMackin returned to the reporters and apologized for using the "inappropriate" word. ’What I was trying to do was be funny and it wasn’t funny," he said, according to a recording of the conversation posted on the Idaho Statesman’s website. "It’s not funny. Even more, it isn’t funny to me. I was trying to make a joke and it was a bad choice of words. And I really, really feel bad about it. ... It was really stupid.’" |

"As expected, South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier announced today that two of his players will be hit with suspensions that will involve multiple games. The reason for Nunn's suspension has yet to be disclosed. ... Spurrier also indicated that cornerback C.C. Taurasi faces three drunk-driving related charges, including extreme DUI, for a July 2 incident in which she also was cited for speeding. The 27-year-old guard was cited hours after she scored 22 points in the Mercury's 93-81 victory over the Seattle Storm. A Phoenix police report released Tuesday shows Taurasi's blood-alcohol level was 0.17 percent, more than twice the Arizona legal limit of 0.08 percent. |

| 2008-08-06 | Trailer_Trash | Broncos | Nuisance | Crime Link | 1 | The Denver Broncos will start the season without wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who was suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for three games for violating the league's personal conduct policy. |
| 2008-08-05 | Trailer_Trash | Yankees | Nuisance | Crime Link | 2 | Baltimore's Daniel Cabrera and New York's Edwar Ramirez were suspended and fined by the league for intentionally throwing at batters during a series between the teams earlier this week.
Cabrera was suspended six games and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing a pitch at Alex Rodriguez's head in the bottom of the eighth inning on Tuesday night. Ramirez, a reliever, was suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing at Kevin Millar's head during the top of the seventh inning on Wednesday. "That's too much," Ramirez said before the Yankees played the Angels on Thursday night. "I didn't do nothing yesterday. One pitch, one mistake ... I didn't try to hit him." Both pitchers were ejected from the respective games. Ramirez has appealed the league's decision. Cabrera hasn't yet, and if he doesn't his suspension will begin Friday night against the Seattle Mariners. |
| 2008-08-04 | Gold_Tooth | Panthers | Nuisance | Crime Link | 2 | Receiver Steve Smith was suspended two games by the Carolina Panthers after his training camp fight with cornerback Ken Lucas.
The suspension will cost Smith more than $205,000, a fraction of his base salary. |
| 2008-06-07 | Trailer_Trash | Devil Rays | Nuisance | Crime Link | 4 | Boston outfielder Coco Crisp, Tampa Bay pitcher James Shields and six other players were suspended Friday, a day after their wild brawl at Fenway Park.
Three Red Sox got suspended: Crisp for seven games, pitcher Jon Lester for five games and first baseman Sean Casey for three games. Five Rays were penalized by Major League Baseball disciplinarian Bob Watson: Shields for six games, DH-outfielder Jonny Gomes and pitcher Edwin Jackson for five games each, outfielder Carl Crawford for four games and second baseman Akinori Iwamura for three games. All eight players also were fined undisclosed amounts. The Red Sox and Rays have often clashed in the past, and a fight between Crisp and Shields in Boston’s 7-1 win Thursday night triggered the latest outburst. "I want to be very clear: I defend everything our guys did," Rays manager Joe Maddon said before Friday night’s game at Texas. "I feel actually proud of the way we handled the situation that was presented." The starting dates of the suspensions were staggered, so as to not leave either team short-handed. Crisp, Shields and Gomes all appealed their penalties, which were set to start Friday night. They can continue to play until the appeal process is complete. Lester, suspended for throwing a pitch at a Tampa Bay hitter after a warning had been issued, will not appeal and immediately began sitting out. Crawford was set to start serving his suspension Wednesday, Jackson on June 13, Casey on June 14 and Iwamura on June 17. "Obviously, we want to balance the days out. They’ve done that, but we want to see if we can set it up a little different," Maddon said. "We’d like to see a few more of their guys suspended. They started it, but we had more guys thrown out," he said. "The perpetrator’s crime is way too close to us." The Red Sox were home against Seattle on Friday night. The Boston clubhouse had already closed when the suspensions were announced. Major baseball brawls in recent years have resulted in multiple suspensions. |
| 2008-06-07 | Perpetrators | Red Sox | Nuisance | Crime Link | 2 | Three Boston Red Sox players, Coco Crisp, Jon Lester, and Sean Casey were suspended after a bench clearing brawl in their game against the Tamppa Rays. Crisp was suspended for 7 games, Lester for 5, and Casey for 3. |
| 2008-06-06 | Trailer_Trash | Rockies | Nuisance | Crime Link | 1 | Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp was suspended for four games and Colorado catcher Yorvit Torrealba was penalized three games Thursday following their tussle earlier this week.
Both players also were fined undisclosed amounts by Major League Baseball disciplinarian Bob Watson. Kemp appealed his suspension, allowing him to play until a hearing is held. He was in the starting lineup Thursday night for the opener of a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs. "That's what they decided to do, so I have to respect that. But I feel it was just as much his fault as my fault," Kemp said. "I don't feel that I should get more, but it's not my decision. That's why I'm appealing it. I didn't know it was going to be that many games, but we'll see what happens." The Rockies were informed that Torrealba plans to appeal his suspension as well. The team was off Thursday before beginning a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night. Kemp and Torrealba tangled Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. Kemp struck out on a pitch in the dirt for the final out of the eighth inning, and the ball rolled a few feet to the right of Torrealba. Torrealba brushed Kemp from behind before picking up the ball and tagging him lightly in the chest. Kemp shoved Torrealba, and the Rockies catcher retaliated by shoving Kemp in the face with both hands. Kemp and Torrealba wrestled on the infield grass as both benches and bullpens emptied. Both players were ejected in the Rockies' 3-0 win. "I'm more concerned about the games than the fine," said Kemp, who declined to reveal the amount. "I'm letting my team down. I mean, four games, that's a lot of games. I just don't want to miss any games." Kemp didn't get a chance to talk to Watson directly, but acknowledged that baseball is trying to crack down on violence. "I'm not embarrassed about the situation. It just happened," the outfielder said. "I'm sure everybody's been in altercations before -- you just don't see it on TV. "I'm not going to say it's part of the game. It was just two grown-ups that got into an altercation and things just got a little out of hand. You don't really see too many fights in baseball. It's not really that physical of a sport where people should be fighting. It's not like hockey or any of the other sports, but it happens. We take this game seriously, and it is an emotional game." |
| 2008-06-05 | Trailer_Trash | Bucs | Nuisance | Crime Link | 1 | ***DUI was previously busted - these busts are for the NFL 2 game suspension & 1 game fine which was just handed down***
Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Jerramy Stevens was suspended without pay for the first two games of the season and fined an additional game check Wednesday for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. The league also said any additional violations between now and the start of the season would increase the suspension to three games. Stevens also would face additional discipline for a new violation. Stevens signed with the Bucs in April 2007 after being released by the Seattle Seahawks following his arrest in Scottsdale, Ariz., for investigation of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana. The former first-round draft pick was convicted of DUI in September and served a one-game suspension and was fined an additional game check for the marijuana offense. The latest suspension stems from the DUI portion of the case. Stevens spent the first five seasons of his career with the Seahawks. He had 18 receptions for 189 yards and four touchdowns for the Bucs in 2007. He became a free agent after the season and re-signed with Tampa Bay last week. |

| 2008-05-26 | Trailer_Trash | Yankees | Nuisance | Crime Link | 2 | New York Yankees pitcher LaTroy Hawkins was given a three-game suspension for allegedly throwing at a batter during a game against the Baltimore Orioles.
The suspension was to have begun Thursday but Hawkins has appealed the disciplinary action, which includes an undisclosed fine. In the sixth inning of Tuesday's game against Baltimore, pitches from Hawkins were far inside the plate and toward batter Luke Scott. The second pitch was high and inside -- about head level -- although Scott wasn't hit. The home plate umpire immediately ejected Hawkins from the game. Both benches cleared in the incident but no punches were thrown. American League officials ruled Hawkins intentionally threw at Scott and issued the suspension and fine. |
| 2008-05-19 | Gold_Tooth | Big 10 | Nuisance | Crime Link | 2 | Purdue Safety Torri Williams has been suspended indefinitely from the team after stealing condoms on May 7 from Pay Less Super Market.

| 2008-05-19 | IrvinSucks | ACC | Nuisance | Crime Link | 2 | FSU receiver Preston Parker was suspended 2 games for his previously-busted gun possession arrest. According to the article, he also apologized to his teammates and the fans in a statement released by his attorney. |
| 2008-04-20 | Trailer_Trash | Chargers | Nuisance | Crime Link | 2 | Chargers inside linebacker Stephen Cooper was suspended for four games by the NFL on Tuesday for testing positive for a banned stimulant.
Cooper, who moved into the starting lineup last season and led the Chargers with 179 tackles, said in a statement released by the team that he took a stimulant that was recently added to the NFL's list of prohibited substances. "I regret that I mistakenly took a stimulant that I did not realize at the time was banned by the NFL," Cooper said. "I support the NFL's anti-doping policies, and understand that I must serve a suspension even though the stimulant that I took was not used before any game and was not used to enhance my performance. "I apologize to the NFL, my team, my coaches and to my fans, and I look forward to continuing to help the Chargers toward our goal of winning the Super Bowl in the upcoming season." Neither Cooper nor his agent could immediately be reached for further comment. While at Maine, Cooper admitted to possession of steroids after being found with about 1,000 pills in his duffel bag when the driver of an SUV he was riding in was stopped for speeding in 2002. Cooper, who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drug charge, said at the time that he never took the steroids, but had been planning to use them to bulk up in hopes of making the NFL. It's the second time since 2006 a Chargers linebacker has been suspended for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Star outside linebacker Shawne Merriman served a four-game suspension in 2006 after testing positive for steroids. General manager A.J. Smith said the suspension was "very disappointing." "Coop has embarrassed himself, his family and the Chargers," Smith told The Associated Press. "He made a mistake. Some people learn from their mistakes, others do not. I do believe Stephen Cooper will learn from his and in a positive way. Only time will tell." Smith said he didn't know what stimulant Cooper tested positive for. Cooper's suspension begins on Saturday, Aug. 30 following the Chargers' final exhibition game. He is eligible to return to the active roster on Monday, Sept. 29 following the team's Sunday game against the Oakland Raiders. Cooper can participate in the team's offseason program and in all preseason practices and games. "Obviously we're disappointed, just as I know Stephen is," coach Norv Turner said in a statement. "Coop made a mistake and now must deal with the consequences. It's unfortunate, but we'll deal with it and move on." |
| 2008-04-20 | Trailer_Trash | Yankees | Nuisance | Crime Link | 2 | New York Yankees reliever Kyle Farnsworth was suspended for three games and fined Saturday for throwing a fastball behind the neck of Boston slugger Manny Ramirez earlier in the week.
Farnsworth said he was "shocked" by the decision and would appeal the penalty, which was to start Saturday night against Baltimore. He will be eligible to pitch until a hearing is held. "I can't agree," he said. "We will appeal, and then we'll go from there." Manager Joe Girardi also expressed his shock at the ruling by Bob Watson, vice president of on-field operations for Major League Baseball. The amount of the fine was not disclosed. "I am shocked and I don't understand it. I disagree with it. It doesn't make any sense to me," Girardi said, adding that there have been far worse incidents that have gone without penalty this season. Ramirez hit two home runs Thursday night in Boston's 7-5 win over New York. When he came up again in the seventh inning, Farnsworth threw a 97 mph pitch behind the star. Ramirez dropped his bat, but never made a move toward the mound. Farnsworth wasn't ejected and plate umpire Larry Vanover immediately warned both dugouts. Ramirez eventually grounded out and the Red Sox never retaliated. "The ball just slipped," Farnsworth said. "I didn't hit him. I'm not going to intentionally hit a guy in the head and maybe end his career. "It wasn't my intention to hit him. I don't understand it. I didn't hit him. No one was ejected. So I don't know why he ruled the way he did." A day before Farnsworth's close pitch, Red Sox reliever David Aardsma hit Yankees star Alex Rodriguez with a pitch. "We hit one of the best players and I guess they want to send a message and that's what they did," Ramirez said after nearly getting hit. "They've got to back up their players and he did." Farnsworth has been suspended twice before in his career for throwing at hitters, in 2003 for three games and in 2005 for five games. Asked if he thought that was taken into consideration by Watson in making his decision, Farnsworth said he didn't think so. No date was given for Farnsworth's appeal to be heard. "The sooner we get it done, the better," Farnsworth said. |

Milwaukee's Royal Ivey was suspended for three games without pay by the NBA on Wednesday for punching Chicago's Aaron Gray in the groin. The altercation happened with 10:48 left in the second quarter of the Bucks' 151-135 loss Monday night. Ivey was barred from the Bucks' season finale against Minnesota on Wednesday and the first two regular-season games he is eligible to play next season. "It was nice to see, because (executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson) was calling," Gray said. "It's obvious I had support from the organization and the NBA." Ivey was with the team at the morning shootaround. The news didn't emerge until the afternoon, and coach Larry Krystkowiak sounded surprised. "Something took place, they reviewed the film, and made the decision at the league," Krystkowiak said. "Beyond that, I haven't had a chance to talk to Ive. Just knew that he wasn't supposed to join us coming to the gym, and we're going to catch up with him on the plane on the way home." |

| 2008-04-06 | Trailer_Trash | Penguins | Nuisance | Crime Link | 1 | The NHL suspended Pittsburgh Penguins forward Georges Laraque on Thursday for three games, one day after he injured Buffalo defenseman Nathan Paetsch with an elbow to the head.
Paetsch is out indefinitely with a concussion, leaving the Sabres' depleted defense down a third player in the midst of their final playoff push. Paetsch will miss "a pretty good period of time," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said Thursday. The defenseman had just passed the puck from deep in the Buffalo own zone early in the second period of Pittsburgh's 7-3 victory Wednesday when Laraque skated by and hit him with a raised elbow. | 2008-02-08 | Trailer_Trash | West Coast | Nuisance | Crime Link | 1 | GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- University of North Dakota men's hockey coach Dave Hakstol has been suspended for two games and reprimanded for profane language and a gesture he made at a referee during a heated Saturday night game with Minnesota.
During the second period of game, which ended in a 1-1 tie, a television camera showed Hakstol sticking up his middle finger at referee Don Adam after the two discussed a penalty call. Acting University of North Dakota athletic directors Betty Ralston and Steve Brekke announced the suspension on Monday. "We expect our coaches to keep themselves and their teams in control at all times," Ralston said. "Profane language and poor behavior on the part of our coaches and student-athletes is unacceptable." The Sioux have this week off before playing host to Denver on Feb. 15-16. Hakstol will not coach the two-game series, UND said. Western Collegiate Hockey Association Commissioner Bruce McLeod said Hakstol violated the league's code of sportsmanlike conduct. The WCHA issued a reprimand to Hakstol on Monday and said it endorsed the UND suspension. "We appreciate the rapid response and action taken by the University of North Dakota today and we are in complete agreement with that decision," the WCHA said in a statement. Hakstol called Adam after the game to personally apologize, and issued a statement Sunday. "I would like to sincerely apologize to our fans, players and entire program, as well as all college hockey fans, the WCHA and Don Adam for my actions during the second period of last night's game versus the University of Minnesota," Hakstol's statement said. "I'm disappointed in myself for allowing my emotions and frustrations to get the better of me. I pride myself in not allowing this type of thing to occur. "Most importantly, I am a parent before I am a coach, and I understand the responsibility that we carry as coaches within the WCHA to young hockey fans and families everywhere. I have evaluated and feel terrible about my actions and can assure everyone that such a thing will never happen again." |

1 count of drunk & disorderly which is how he is clearly described below 2 counts of assault & battery for attacking 2 teenagers in the street 2 counts of child endangerment (they were only teenagers and he punched one kid unconscious) He will miss 2 games for his actions Footballer Joey Barton to spend New Year in a cell as court refuses bail By LIZ HULL - More by this author » Last updated at 21:36pm on 28th December 2007 Shamed footballer Joey Barton will spend New Year behind bars after he was remanded in custody yesterday over an alleged street fight. The Newcastle United player was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday outside a 24-hour McDonalds following an all-night drinking session in Liverpool. The incident could see the £45,000-a-week midfielder sacked. Sources at Newcastle said the club was examining his contract to see whether it could be terminated in light of his arrest. Magistrates were told yesterday that Barton, 25, "snapped and lashed out" after being goaded by other diners at the McDonalds at around 5.30am. The confrontation continued outside. Police were called after Barton was spotted on CCTV allegedly attacking two teenagers, who cannot be named for legal reasons. One of them was reportedly punched unconscious. He was taken to hospital but has since been released. Magistrates refused to grant Barton - whose half brother, Michael, 18, was convicted of the racist murder of Anthony Walker - bail after hearing details of two previous alleged assaults for which he is awaiting trial. They remanded the Liverpoolborn player into custody until next Thursday, meaning he will miss two Premier League games for Newcastle. On hearing the decision, Barton, who has made one substitute appearance for England, turned to a guard beside him and held his hands out to be cuffed. Jayne Hughes, prosecuting, said Barton had been charged with common assault and affray. "The CCTV clearly shows Mr Barton involved in altercations with members of the public going about their business," she said. "He was seen pacing around Church Street and lashing out indiscriminately at people walking around and standing around." Barton's brother, Andrew, 19, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and another woman, Nadine Wilson, 27, was charged with common assault and affray. Newcastle declined to comment, although insiders said manager Sam Allardyce was "livid". Refusing Barton, of Widnes, Cheshire, bail magistrate Carol Myers said: "I have to consider the safety of the public - you lashed out indiscriminately." Barton is already awaiting trial for assault next year following a training ground clash with his former team-mate at Manchester City, Ousamane Dabo. He is also due to appear in court in Liverpool next month on a charge of criminal damage following an argument with a taxi driver in 2005. |
