Howard College’s men’s basketball team knew it would be a tougher season than last year’s championship team with having to replace several key players. Now it will be harder after 3 "players" allegedly decided stealing a television was more important than trying to repeat.

3 members of the Howard College men’s basketball team were dismissed from the team following their arrest on theft charges.

Phillip Jackson, Jonathon Landry, and Fabyon Harris were all arrested after shoplifting several items from the Big Spring Wal-Mart earlier this week, including a big-screen television.

Head Coach Mark Adams commented to me off-camera his disappointment in the players, who were all freshman, and that he would begin looking to fill those slots.

None of the players were on last year’s 33-2 National JUCO Championship team. In fact none of the 3 had even attended a practice or a class.

None of the 3 had any local ties to the area. Jackson and Harris are from Illinois, Landry from San Antonio.

Adams also commented he had no choice but to kick the players off the team.

Jamie Harris, 21, the team’s starting point guard and leading scorer, and Kevin Phillip, 21, a backup forward, turned themselves in Monday, Philadelphia police Lt. John Walker said. A third man, Devon Bond, 21, also a Drexel student, was arrested last week.

Bond was charged Friday, and warrants were issued for Harris and Phillip on Saturday. All three face robbery, theft and weapons charges, Walker said.

2010-07-26IrvinSucksACCBig-TimeCrime Link40Florida State University football player Nigel Carr is behind bars this morning after he was arrested Sunday on several charges.

Carr, 20, faces two counts of burglary of a structure and one count of property damage, theft of a credit card and fraud.

He was arrested by Tallahassee police and is being held at the Leon County Jail on more than $15,000 bond. More details about the arrest are expected later this morning.

Carr also made non-football related news when Walt Disney World in 2007 permanently banned Carr and three other black Florida State University football players from visiting any of the company’s theme parks after officials accused them of loitering in the parks.

Under pressure of accusations of racial profiling, Disney officials revised their decision and only banned the teens from visiting Downtown Disney for a year.
